The next MASTA study day will be held on the 30th November 2007 at the Royal College of Physicians in London.

We always aim to cover interesting and topical subjects. The 2007 programme includes:

·        Safety and security issues for travellers Shane Winser, Head of Expeditions and Fieldwork Royal Geographical Society, and a member of the British Standards Institute technical panel for BS 8848:2007 the new British Standard for the provision of visits, fieldwork, expeditions and adventurous activities outside the United Kingdom.

·        The seriously ill returning traveller - Professor David Warrell - Professor of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Oxford University and founding director of Oxford’s Centre for Tropical Medicine

·        What’s new in travel medicine? - Sandra Grieve – Chair of RCN Travel Health forum

·        Avoiding medico legal pitfalls in travel medicine – Professor Carol Seymour, Medical Protection Society

·        Malaria prophylaxis, common misunderstandings and reasons for stopping anti-malarials - Lynda Bramham Senior Nurse Adviser, MASTA

·        Travel to Nepal, health risks and medical facilities - Dr Paul Richards, GP in Essex, lecturer on the Diploma in Mountain Medicine course with the University of Leicester. Paul also has experience of working in the CIWEC clinic in Kathmandu and has just returned from a research project on Mount Everest.

·         Japanese encephalitis - Lieutenant Colonel David Ross Consultant in Public Health Medicine, Defence Medical Services Directorate, Ministry of Defence, London. Shirley Bannatyne, Nurse Adviser, MASTA

The Venue

The Royal College of Physicians is an excellent venue in central London, with great food. As usual a seated lunch will be provided for all delegates.

The College is easy to get to on public transport, it is only a few minutes walk from Regents Park or Great Portland Street tube stations.
